“Empty” Box Set

The following is from Jeff Kratzer, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Princeville High School (IL):

Empty 001

• #1 takes the ball to the right, off the top.
• As that action takes place, #5 goes to #4 and sets a screen.
• #4 tolls to the block and #1 gives a look.
• #5 continues to screen #2’s man – he might have a different defender as he has just taken a screen from #3.
• #2 is coming off of the staggered double and #3 goes to the ball side corner.

Empty 002

• #2 looks for a shot – then looks inside for mismatch for #4 in the post.

“Swing” Man Set

The following is from Jim Noonan, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Monmouth United High School:

Swing Noonan 001

• This can be run in transition with #4 as the trail post or from a 1-4 high set.
• It begins with a wing pass and a UCLA cut.

Swing Noonan 002

• #2 reverses the ball to #4, who quickly swings it to #1, who came off a screen from #3
• Quite often, #1 will be open to shoot or #3 will be open on the slip

Swing Noonan 003

• After screening for #1, #3 sets a block to elbow little/big screen for #5
• #4 screens the screener, in this case #3

Swing Noonan 004

• If #5 was is not open, #1 reverses it to #3 comes off of #4’s screen
• On #3’s catch, #4 reshapes and sets a ball screen for #3

“Orange” Play vs. 2-3 Zone

The following is from Cliff Cameron, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Pleasant Plains High School (IL):

Orange vs Zone

• #1 passes to #2
• #2 passes back to #1
• #5 screens the top of the zone
• #3 floats to the corner
• #1 drives to the right off the screen
• #4 goes under the zone to the ball side low block
• #4 is the first open, #3 in the corner is the second option, or #1 can take the shot if open

Louisville Spin Middle Play

Louisville Split Middle 001

• #1 and #3 complete a dribble handoff
• #4 cuts to the block
• #2 cuts towards the top of the key

Louisville Spin Middle 002

• #3 dribbles the ball and #2 fills behind
• #3 passes to #2
• #5 begins to cut towards the top of the key
• #3 fills out to the opposite wing

Louisville Spin Middle 003

• #5 sets a ball screen for #2 and rolls to the basket

Dribble Zone Set

The following is from Cliff Cameron, Head Boys Basketball Coach, Pleasant Plains High School (IL):

Dribble Zone 1

• #1 dribbles at #2
• #2 makes an “L” cut to replace #1

Dribble Zone 2

• #1 passes to #2
• #2 passes to #3

Dribble Zone 3

• #1 screens the top of the zone
• #3 skips to #2 for a “3”
• Note: #4 sometimes has to help screen the zone
